Highbury Vale Illustrator-artist Tim Bradford has responded to the lack of limited edition football prints of 1970s/80s footballers by producing a range of limited edition football prints of 1970s/80s art footballers. He’s calling it The Finsbury Park Institute of Football Art.
“It’s not actually in Finsbury Park – I’m about eight minutes walk away. And it isn’t really an institute, at least not yet. It’s just that the acronym (FPIFA) looks remarkably similar to that for FIFA, the world governing body for football. What I’m hoping is that people might be looking for the FIFA website in order to make a hosting bid for the World Cup and end up buying one of my football art prints instead.”
Tim is heavily influenced by folk art, medieval icons, African barbershop signs and Egyptian Funeral portraits. He has long dreamt of creating football versions of these icons. “Footballers are like saints, or little gods. Or pampered children. Or all three.”
To start with, Tim has created prints for four of his favourite players – Rivelino, Diego Maradona, Peter Lorimer and George Best. He plans to bring out some new football prints in the new year, including players from Lincoln City, Arsenal and West Germany.
All these canvas prints are in a limited edition of 50. Each one is printed and stretched onto a frame by an accredited Fine Art Trade Guild printer and supplied with a serial number and certificate of authenticity.
The prints are £95 each, plus P&P. You can get more information about this football art at http://www.fpifa.org.uk or order direct from the When Saturday Comes online shop at http://bit.ly/aRozWW
It’s the perfect gift for Christmas!*
