FAQ

• What kind of inks are used?

Good question. The pictures are printed with long-term archival fine art inks.

•  What’s the difference between this and those rubbish limited edition plate adverts in Sunday supplements during the 1970s and 80s?

I think it can be explained thus – they were rubbish and these are really good.

• Why does your Diego Maradona picture look a bit like a young Glenda Jackson?

There are two reasons: 1) Firstly, there is a thread of beauty in both the 1978 Diego and the 1968 Glenda. If I love Glenda for her powerful attractiveness, why not reference her in my portrait of Diego? 2) My operation for a detached retina a few years ago saved the sight in my left eye but it has left me seeing the world in a different way.

• Ah, OK – is that why you describe your stuff as “wang-eyed art”?

Precisely. It mostly manifests itself in an inability to see straight lines and rectangles properly. But it might also affect my perception of certain objects so that South American footballers and English actresses look the same.
